The problem
Compliant consent management, without overhauling the app
Corriere del Ticino already had its own mobile app, designed to give users immediate, intuitive access to the newspaper’s content. However, it lacked an effective system to collect and manage users’ acceptance of terms, an essential requirement for compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the new Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and other international regulations such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
The absence of structured consent management was a critical issue both legally and for the user experience. Without a clear, integrated solution the process was fragmented and ineffective, putting the app’s transparency and regulatory compliance at risk.
The goal was therefore to develop a system that could collect and manage consent smoothly, without overhauling the existing app architecture and while keeping an intuitive interface for users.
The process
From analysing the existing app to TCF integration

Analysis of the existing app
To meet this need, it was essential to analyse the existing application in detail and identify the most suitable way to integrate Iubenda’s features seamlessly, without adding unnecessary complexity or altering how the app worked. After an in-depth technical meeting, a clear strategy was defined, structured in three phases.

Building the NPM package
The first phase involved creating a custom NPM package for React Native, designed to be easily integrated into existing applications without invasive changes. This approach kept a high level of flexibility while ensuring a stable, scalable solution.

Native iOS and Android integration
Next, the native integration was developed, with dedicated bridges for iOS and Android. For Apple’s operating system a Swift bridge was implemented using CocoaPods, while Android relied on Kotlin with Gradle. This phase was crucial to efficiently handle the initialisation of the Iubenda SDK directly within the React Native environment.

TCF integration
Finally, the last phase covered full integration with the Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF), through dedicated methods that manage consent in a compliant, transparent way. This made it possible to adopt a structured system that meets international privacy standards, ensuring every user can express their preferences clearly and consciously.

A custom package to integrate Iubenda into React Native
A package that brings the official Iubenda SDK into the existing React Native app, with native iOS and Android support and consent management compliant with the Transparency and Consent Framework.

The hex-iubenda package
These three development phases came together in hex-iubenda, an NPM package built specifically to allow fast, efficient integration of the official Iubenda SDK into a React Native app.
This solution not only simplified consent management, but also guaranteed full compatibility with iOS and Android thanks to the native support implemented in the bridges.

Consent management and TCF
Through hex-iubenda it became possible to access the user consent management methods directly, ensuring precise control that complies with current regulations.
Compatibility with the Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF) also enabled an advanced privacy protection system, making regulatory compliance easier without affecting the user experience.
The result
A privacy-compliant app in under two months
Thanks to this implementation, in under 45 days Corriere del Ticino fully aligned its app with privacy regulations, giving users a more transparent experience that complies with current law. Consent is now managed dynamically and in a structured way, allowing precise control and minimising the risk of non-compliance.
The solution also improved the user experience, making the acceptance of terms smoother and more intuitive. Users can express their preferences clearly, confident that their data is handled in line with international regulations.
Adopting the Iubenda SDK brought a further significant advantage: automatic updates. Thanks to this integration, Corriere del Ticino benefits from Iubenda’s continuous, automatic updates, minimising future manual work and always guaranteeing the highest level of security and regulatory compliance.
